A fictional everyday scene for practising this lesson

Ask another person to act

Use a verb in its te-form + もらえませんか to make a polite request. The other person does the action. For example, 教えておしえてもらえませんか asks them to explain or teach you something.

相手あいてにお願ねがいします。『教おしえてもらえませんか』は、相手あいてに教おしえてほしいときの言いい方かたです。

Offer to act yourself

Change the ending ます to ましょうか to offer help. With 持ちもちましょうか, you offer to carry something. You are not asking the other person to carry it for you.

『持もちましょうか』では、自分じぶんが持もちます。相手あいてに手伝てつだってもらう言いい方かたではありません。

Build the forms

教えおしえます → 教えておしえて → 教えておしえてもらえませんか。持ちもちます → 持ちもちましょうか。The two patterns use different verb forms; do not attach ましょうか to the te-form.

『教おしえます』から『教おしえて』を作つくります。『持もちます』は、『ます』を『ましょうか』に変かえます。

Reply to the offer

ありがとうございます is a useful short reply when you accept help. Say what you need if it is not clear: では、このかばんをお願ねがいします. Practise both roles so the direction of the help stays clear.

手伝てつだってほしいときは、『ありがとうございます。では、このかばんをお願ねがいします』などと答こたえられます。二人ふたりで役やくを変かえて練習れんしゅうしましょう。
