Polite Requests & Permission: 〜させてください vs 〜させていただきます|〜させてください・〜させていただきます
In professional and formal environments, handling permissions and announcing your own actions with appropriate humility is vital. Both 〜させてください and 〜させていただきます employ the causative form (〜せる / 〜させる) combined with verbs of giving and receiving. However, they serve different communicative goals: 〜させてください directly requests permission from a supervisor or client, while 〜させていただきます is a humble declaration that frames your action as deferentially permitted.
自分がすることを職場で丁寧に伝えたり、許可をもらったりするときに『〜させてください』『〜させていただきます』を使います。正しいマナーと使い分けを練習しましょう。

Asking for permission: 〜させてください (Please let me do)
When you need authorization or approval from a superior or organization before taking action, use 〜させてください. It literally means "Please grant me permission to do ~". For example, 体調が悪いので、今日は早退させてください (Since I feel unwell, please allow me to leave early today).
『〜させてください』は、上司や相手に『〜してもいいですか』と許可を求めるときに使います。休みや早退のお願いにぴったりです。
Humble business announcements: 〜させていただきます (Allow me to)
When beginning a presentation, sharing slides, or taking an action that affects the other party, 〜させていただきます provides a polite, respectful announcement: 自己紹介をさせていただきます (Allow me to respectfully introduce myself). It expresses deference by treating the action as a privilege granted by the listeners.
『〜させていただきます』は、スピーチやプレゼンの前などに『これから〜いたします』と謙虚に宣言するときに使います。
How to form causative verbs
Group 1 verbs change the final -u sound to -a and add せる (書く → 書かせる → 書かせてください). Group 2 verbs drop る and add させる (食べる → 食べさせる → 食べさせてください). Group 3 verbs are irregular: する → させる (説明させていただきます), and 来る → 来させる.
使役形は、1類動詞はア段+せる、2類動詞はさせる、3類は『させる』『こさせる』になります。
Workplace etiquette: Avoiding excessive overuse
While 〜させていただきます is polite, Japanese business etiquette advises against overusing it for simple routine actions where no permission or favor exists. For standard daily duties, simple polite forms like 書類をお送りします are more crisp and appropriate.
なんでも『〜させていただきます』を使いすぎると不自然になることがあります。通常の仕事は『お送りします』などの表現も使いましょう。
