Applying for Shinjuku Nursery Schools: Moving from Outside the City or Overseas

If you plan to move into Shinjuku City (including moving from overseas), you can apply directly to Shinjuku City for authorized nursery schools (認可保育園等). As with Shinjuku residents, there is no restriction on when you can apply. Enrollment starts on the 1st of each month (no mid-month or March enrollment).

Nursery School Application and Screening Flow
When to ApplyMust arrive at Shinjuku City by the city's application deadline. Enrollment is always on the 1st of each month.
Where to ApplySubmit directly to Shinjuku City (if you plan to move to Shinjuku).
Documents (Moving to Shinjuku)Shinjuku application forms, copy of My Number Card, Declaration of Moving-in, and proof of address (sales/lease contract showing a move-in or handover date on or before the last day of the month before enrollment, or Declaration of Living Together if living with relatives in Shinjuku).
Documents (Foreign Nationals)Copy of front and back of Residence Card (在留カード). Permission to Engage in Activity other than that Permitted (資格外活動許可) if applying for employment under dependent/student visa.
Overseas Income & ContactAnnual Income Declaration with Japanese translation. Provide a domestic daytime contact person in Japan.
If accepted, you must complete an interview and medical checkup at the nursery school before enrollment. An offer is cancelled if: (1) moving-in notification is not submitted by the last day of the month before enrollment, (2) your address differs from application documents, (3) interview and medical checkup are not completed, or (4) a false declaration is made. Consult the Nursery Enrollment and Certification Section in advance if your child has a disability, illness, developmental concern, or requires medical care.

  • 海外かいがい収入しゅうにゅう・連絡先れんらくさき：年間収入申告書ねんかんしゅうにゅうしんこくしょ（日本語訳にほんごやくを付つける）。日本にほんの昼間ひるまに連絡れんらくがとれる人ひとの連絡先れんらくさき。
  • 気きをつけること：入園にゅうえんが決きまったら、その園えんで面接めんせつと健康診断けんこうしんだんを受うけます。前月ぜんげつ末日まつじつまでに転入届てんにゅうとどけを出ださないとき、住所じゅうしょがちがうとき、面接めんせつや健診けんしんを受うけないとき、うそがあるときは取とり消けしになります。
  • 特別とくべつな支援しえんが必要ひつようなとき：障害しょうがい、病気びょうき、発達はったつの心配しんぱい、医療的いりょうてきケアがあるお子こさんは、前まえもって保育課ほいくか入園にゅうえん・認定係にんていがかりに相談そうだんします。
