A is more… than B

Write A は B より + adjective. より marks the thing you compare against (B), and the sentence says A has more of that quality. 月曜日げつようびは火曜日かようびより人ひとが多おおいです means Monday has more people than Tuesday.

『月曜日げつようびは火曜日かようびより人ひとが多おおいです』のように、比くらべる相手あいての後あとに『より』を付つけます。

AのほうがBより… stresses the comparison

午前ごぜんのほうが午後ごごより短みじかいです also compares two things. のほう shows that you are comparing. If it is clear what you compare with, you can leave out より and say 午前ごぜんのほうが短みじかいです.

『のほう』は、比くらべていることを強つよく言いう形かたちです。何なにと比くらべるかが分わかるときは、『Bより』を言いわなくてもいいです。

Ask which one: AとBと、どちらが…か

To ask which of two things is more…, say 窓口まどぐちAとBと、どちらが近ちかいですか. A natural answer is AのほうがBより近ちかいです.

二ふたつを比くらべて聞きくときは、『AとBと、どちらが〜ですか』と言いいます。答こたえは『AのほうがBより〜です』です。

Keep the order: the word before より is the one you compare against

If you swap A and B, the meaning reverses: 月曜日げつようびは火曜日かようびより多おおい and 火曜日かようびは月曜日げつようびより多おおい say opposite things. The adjective is used in its usual form, with です in polite speech.

AとBを入いれ替かえると、意味いみが反対はんたいになります。形容詞けいようしは、いつもの形かたちで使つかいます。
