Moving to Shinjuku: Registering Your New Address (Moving-in Notification)

When you move into Shinjuku City, you register your address with the city by submitting a Moving-in Notification (tennyū todoke, 転入届). Your resident registration is the basis for city services such as National Health Insurance, child medical subsidies, child allowance, and school.

  • ほかの人ひとが出だすときは、「委任状いにんじょう」が要いります。

Bring (from another city in Japan)Certificate of Moving-Out (転出証明書) from your previous city / Residence Card (在留カード) or Special Permanent Resident Certificate / My Number Card for each household member who has one
Bring (from overseas)Residence Card (or passport stamped for later issuance, if you did not receive the card at the airport) / an original document proving your relationship to the head of household may be required. If it is in a foreign language, attach a Japanese translation that names the translator.
If you are moving in from overseas, the Tuesday evening (5–7 p.m.) and 4th-Sunday counters do not accept your notification. Hotels, weekly apartments, private lodging (民泊), and company offices cannot generally be registered as your address.

  • 時間じかん：月曜日げつようび〜金曜日きんようび 午前ごぜん8時じ30分ぷん〜午後ごご5時じ。火曜日かようびは午後ごご7時じまで。毎月まいつき 第だい4日曜日にちようび 午前ごぜん9時じ〜午後ごご5時じ（本庁舎ほんちょうしゃだけ）。
  • 持もち物もの（日本にほんのほかの市しや町まちから）：前まえの市しや町まちの「転出証明書てんしゅつしょうめいしょ」／在留ざいりゅうカードか特別永住者証明書とくべつえいじゅうしゃしょうめいしょ／マイナンバーカード（持もっている人ひとは、家族かぞくみんなの分ぶん）
  • 持もち物もの（外国がいこくから）：在留ざいりゅうカード（空港くうこうでもらわなかった人ひとは、後あとでカードを出だすという印しるしがあるパスポート）／世帯主せたいぬしとの関係かんけいがわかる書類しょるい（原本げんぽん）が要いることがあります。外国語がいこくごの書類しょるいには、日本語にほんごの訳やくを付つけます。訳やくには、訳やくした人ひとの名前なまえを書かきます。
  • 気きをつけること：外国がいこくから引ひっ越こした人ひとは、火曜日かようびの午後ごご5時じ〜7時じと、第だい4日曜日にちようびには出だせません。
  • ホテル、ウィークリーマンション、民泊みんぱく、会社かいしゃの事務所じむしょなどは、ふつうは住所じゅうしょとして登録とうろくできません。
