Moving to or from Setagaya City: Procedures, Counters, and What to Bring (Moving-in, Address Change, Moving-out)
When you move into Setagaya City, change your address within the city, or move out to another municipality or abroad, you change your resident record (住民票). In Setagaya City, resident moving notifications are accepted at 10 places: the 5 General Branch Office Kumin Madoguchi (総合支所くみん窓口), including the Setagaya General Branch Office, and 5 Branch Offices (出張所). Some counters are open on Saturdays, and moving-out can also be done online or by mail.

Moving-out online or by mail
If you move within Japan, you can submit the moving-out notification without visiting the counter.

- Setagaya, Kitazawa, Tamagawa, Kinuta, and Karasuyama General Branch Office Kumin Madoguchi, and the Taishido Branch Office.
- 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Closed on the 3rd Saturday, holidays, and the year-end and New Year holidays.
- Moving-in from abroad cannot be done on Saturdays. Procedures that need confirmation with other organizations may not be possible.
- If you come after 4:00 p.m., the procedure may not be completed on the same day.

Can I submit the moving-in notification before I move?
The moving-in notification is submitted within 14 days from the day you moved in (the day you started living in Setagaya City). You need to come to the counter.
Can I submit the moving-out notification before I move?
If you move within Japan, you can submit it within 14 days before or after your move. If you move abroad, you need to submit it at the counter within 14 days before your move.
Can I do moving procedures on Saturday?
Yes. The 5 General Branch Office Kumin Madoguchi and the Taishido Branch Office are open from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. (except the 3rd Saturday, holidays, and the year-end and New Year holidays). However, moving-in from abroad is not handled. If you come after 4:00 p.m., the procedure may not be completed on the same day.
Is there a deadline for changing the address on my My Number Card?
If you do not complete the procedure within 30 days of your (planned) moving-out date and within 14 days of your moving-in date, you will no longer be able to keep using your My Number Card.
