The JLPT does not publish official kanji lists, so the N5–N1 lists on this site are built from three sources. These Jōyō Kanji (the official kanji for everyday use in Japan) do not fall into any level on those lists. They are still part of everyday Japanese, so they are collected here with their meanings and readings from the official Jōyō Kanji Table.

Questions about these kanji
What are Jōyō Kanji?
The Jōyō Kanji are the 2,136 kanji in the official list of kanji for general use in Japan, published by the Agency for Cultural Affairs in 2010. They are the kanji used in newspapers, official documents and everyday writing.
Why are these kanji not in any JLPT level?
The JLPT does not publish official kanji lists. The level lists on this site use only kanji that three sources agree on. These kanji are not placed in any level by those sources, or the sources disagree on their level.
Do I need to learn these kanji?
They are part of everyday written Japanese, so you will see them in newspapers, signs and documents. Learn them after the N5 to N1 kanji, or when you meet them in your reading.
